I was 'troling around the internet one day, and I saw a post where someone was joking about how weird it would be to pull up to a Smash Bros tournament, and your opponent sits down with a typewriter. They plug it into the Switch and somehow it registers as a controller. They proceed to beat the piss out of you, three-stocking you like it's nothing, all while the hammer smacks away at the ribbon. At the end of the round, they rip the paper off of the ribbon and hand it to you. It's the script to the first episode of "Murder, She Wrote."
I thought it was the funniest idea. Not long after, I was at Goodwill, doing my regular thrifting, and I spotted an electric typewriter. I bought it and brought it home to tinker with.
I learned so many different skills to get that stupid thing to work. I learned key matrices. I learned how to work a solenoid with a relay. I learned how to hide wires really well.
And when I was done, this abomination was working. You could hit a button and make the hammer slam, and the Switch thought it was a Pro Controller.
I never did figure out how to get it to print the script to "Murder, She Wrote" though.
Unfortunately, it was lost forever in a house fire, but I've still got the videos to show how crazy ideas can be.
